A Friday the 13th Short Story: 13 authors ~ 13 suspenseful stories. Murder and mayhem on Friday the 13th...Find each story in the series on Amazon.

On Friday the 13th, sweet college student and barista, Maya Pendleton, leaves Rowena’s Coffee to walk home alone. The streets of Gideon’s Hollow are empty. The locals believe the spirits of the witches from nearby Salem roam on this cursed night, seeking revenge on the descendants of those who burnt them at the stake.

Maya’s lonely footsteps echo through the empty street in a steady rhythm until they’re interrupted by another pair. They belong to Rand Roosevelt¾an evil man with murder on his mind. But he picks the wrong night, the wrong victim, and he messes with the wrong witch.

Peek between the pages...

The witch removed her athame from her satchel, sliced open the meaty part of her palm, and coated the blade with her blood. She held it to the sky as she moved to stand beside the girl in the center of the circle. “As above,” she buried the ritual knife into the Earth beside Maya’s waist, “so below.”

She lifted her arms to the clear sky where the orange harvest moon held reign over the night, letting the power of the elements fill her. The tendrils of darkness hung in the air nearby, waiting for her to harness their energy. “Dark God. An act most foul, the murder of an innocent, has been committed upon this sacred land. Lend us your strength to right the wrong.”

The black candles on either side of Maya’s head burst into flame, melting the wax into two small nubs.

“Yes, my lord. Yes.” The witch smiled. “Dark Lord, lend Maya Pendleton your power. Resurrect her from the land of the dead, so she may bring vengeance upon Rand Roosevelt, the one who wronged her, to restore balance to this sacred land.”

A bolt of lightning forked down from the sky into Maya’s chest. The wound on the girl’s hand closed, and her eyes popped open.

The witch outstretched her palms over the girl, who was no longer human, but rather an immortal slave bound to the witch. “Arise, my avenging angel.”

A Celtic warrior queen must do the impossible—defeat her sorcerer half-brother and claim the throne. But to do so, she must learn how to strike vengeance from her father’s skull.

AS FORETOLD BY HER FATHER in a vision, Catrin has become a battle-hardened warrior after her trials in the Roman legion and gladiatorial games. She must return to Britannia and pull the cursed dagger out of the serpent's stone to fulfill her destiny. Only then can she unleash the vengeance from the ancient druids to destroy her evil half-brother, the powerful sorcerer, King Marrock. Always two steps ahead and seemingly unstoppable, Marrock can summon destructive natural forces to crush any rival trying to stop him and has charged his deadliest assassin to bring back Catrin's head.

To have the slightest chance of beating Marrock, Catrin must forge alliances with former enemies, but she needs someone she can trust. Her only option is to seek military aid from Marcellus—her secret Roman husband. They rekindle their burning passion, but he is playing a deadly game in the political firestorm of the Julio-Claudian dynasty to support Catrin's cause.

Ultimately, in order to defeat Marrock, Catrin must align herself with a dark druidess and learn how to summon forces from skulls to exact vengeance. But can she and Marcellus outmaneuver political enemies from Rome and Britannia in their quest to vanquish Marrock?

I'm delighted to welcome Linnea to my blog.

Can you describe your dream home?

I did live in my dream home from which I moved to downsize last year. My previous home had an open floor plan with two master bedrooms on the main floor and an extra bedroom in the loft where my grandchildren could stay. The kitchen was open to the family room and eating area where the family could gather and chat while I cook. There was a separate dining room for larger family events and a separate office where I could write. There was an attached gazebo at the front and a porch at the back. I was an avid gardener with flowers, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens. I miss my prior home, but the upkeep of the yard became too much.

If we were to come to your house for a meal, what would you give us to eat?

Slowly baked pot roast with potatoes and carrots. This meal brings back memories of my mother’s Sunday meals.

Tell us about the absolute BEST fan letter you have received.

I’ve become acquainted with one fan who is has posted in-depth reviews on all of my books. Through social media and interactions with him, I’ve learned that he had lost his wife but is an avid reader. He graciously supports me on social media and leaves positive comments.

Say your publisher has offered to fly you anywhere in the world to do research on an upcoming book, where would you most likely want to go?

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, I had the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom and France and where many of the scenes in Curse of Clansmen and Kings series takes place. However, I’ve never travelled to Italy where several scenes in Skull’s Vengeance takes place. I would love to go to Rome and visit the ancient ruins and countryside outside the city. And then, I would love to visit northern Italy and hike some of the trails.

Who designed the book cover for the book you are touring?

Book two of the Family Pride Paranormal Romance Series

After claiming Zora Mason as his mate, and fighting off a threat to the MacKinnon pride, Mac is more than ready to get back to managing his coffee bar and settling into mated bliss. But just when it looks like things are quieting down, Mac and Zora find more challenges ahead.

Plans for Zora and Mac’s official introduction to the pride, and the opening of the new coffee bar may be derailed when, gripped by a mysterious blood fever lingering after the leadership challenge, Mac is driven to the edge of his endurance as he fights to keep his inner lion under control.

Juggling her responsibilities in the business and her position as the mate of the pride leader becomes even more challenging when Zora is forced to confront her fear that Mac is changing into someone she doesn’t recognize.

As the fever pushes Mac to the edge, the revelation of an old, painful family secret proves to be the key to saving Mac’s life. Zora and Mac come up with a plan to end the threat of the fever forever, but that same plan may destroy them both.

Is their love strong enough to defeat the blood fever, so they can live happily ever after as mates?

Peek between the pages...

"After Mac fought Eldon it was like he'd gone into some kind of trance. He was in and out of consciousness for a couple of hours."

"I heard about that," Lena put her arm in Zora's and they started walking again. "So many things have happened at once. The challenge, his mating with you, the new shop--it's all coming down at once. Surviving a challenge alone would be enough."

"Lena, I can understand the challenge being stressful, but the mating? It wasn't like it was the first time we'd been intimate."

"There's more involved in the process than it might've seemed. Being at the waterfall where Stephen and Ellen were mated, where I was mated, and generations before me…surrounded by the pride members…it connected you both and made you part of our family," Lena explained. "It's part of a transition that we go through. As a human, you wouldn't have noticed it. But for him, it was a big step away from his life as a nomad."

"But if that's true, what about last night? If we are connected to each other, how could the blood fever make him act that way?"

"Blood fever makes the predator inside him stronger. Those impulses were always there, but my grandson channeled them into his work."

"So, what do I do?" Zora asked.

"Don't show fear. No matter what. Fear feeds the predator inside him. The more fear, the more control the blood fever will have over him. I know he doesn't want to admit this thing could overpower him. But if he tries to fight it, he will lose."

"Lena, do you think he could hurt me?" As she asked the ques-tion, a chill went through her, like she'd been dipped in ice water.

"No, my dear. Blood fever will not make him do anything that he wouldn't normally do. Not really," she replied, as she grasped Zora's hand.

My word for 2023...what's yours?

Do you choose a word each year? Are you able to stick to it?

Last year, my word was Inspired. Did I stick to it? I think so. At least, for the most part. But about two-thirds into the year, inspired turned to overwhelmed. So this year, I tossed around words like Fun, Adventure, and Possibility. See the theme? But I also want to continue working on the things that became overwhelming. This led me to make my word for 2023 Balance. I'll still work on new projects and promote my current titles. And I'll continue to spread the word about amazing authors and their books on my blog and bookstagram accounts. All while remembering to take time for myself, discover new places, and try new things.

This year will be all about
Balance.

Will you be choosing a word? Not sure what word to choose? I got my inspiration from Bryn Donovan's Word of the Year Ideas for 2023

Wishing you an amazing, magical 2023!
