I'm delighted to have Avis M. Adams with me today. She's chatting about her book The Incident, guilty pleasures, and what she does when she's not writing. So without further ado, let's meet Avis!
What inspired you to write this book?
Katrina had just hit New Orleans and storms seemed to be getting stronger and stronger, and our president at the time didn’t believe in global warming. I’ve always felt global warming was the wrong term for what is happening and decided to write a novel about changing weather patterns which seemed a bit closer to what was happening.
Also I teach at a community college and I was wondering what it would take to get my students off their devices, and so I had that in the back of my mind as I wrote as well.
Can you tell us a guilty pleasure… books you can’t get enough of?
I love fantasy set in medieval ages and historical novels set in the same time. I could read those books alone. I like reading about old technology and ways of doing things with horses and oxen, and without electricity. It was such a different life from our own. I don’t think I’d survive very long without central heating and refrigeration! Not to mention my smart phone and wifi!
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I love being outside. I love to hike, bike, swim, ski, snowshoe, you name it. I also love to garden and work on my yard and landscaping. I love being physically active, so I like to work out and lift weights, and that’s a good thing because I love to eat, and if I’m in the mood, I like to cook. I love animals, horses being my favorite, but I don’t own a horse right now. Dogs are my second fave, and I love my puppy walks every morning. J
