Q: What book would you love to see made into a movie or television show and do you have actors/actresses in mind to play the main characters?

I just answered half of this question in a post I was tagged in. Movies just don't capture the characters' emotions and tend to miss important details that are in books. Not to mention it's very disappointing when I have a specific image of a character in my mind and the actor or actress cast for the part is nothing like it. For this reason I'd prefer to reread my favorite books and not have them made into movies.

Television is a little different. The writers can take their time developing the characters and plot. I wouldn't mind seeing them make Lament by Maggie Stiefvater into a show. There are only two books in this series, but I think there is a lot that could be done for a TV series. And I wouldn't mind seeing Cat and Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Grave series brought to life.

How would you answer this question?

  1. I'd still like to see one of Preston and Child's Pendergast stories made into a movie. The Relic was so awful! I'd like to see a good film.

  5. I actually like when books are turned into movies, have ever since I was 8 and I sat down to watch The Wizard of Oz with the book in my lap to compare them. Lol, must be a compulsion. With the success of Twilight, several of my favorite YA series are in movie talks--Mead's Vampire Academy, Clare's Mortal Instruments.

    1. I can see why you like to see books made into movies. That's a great childhood memory. It is fun to look for the differences between a novel and movie or show.

  10. Of course, I'd love to see my forthcoming book, 'White Lies' made into a movie. Yet I must agree with you that books turned into movies don't always work. My screenwriter friend says that books are a thinking medium, whereas movies are a visual medium. Obviously, both can be entertaining.

Too, when books are turned into movies, the author generally loses out on the rights to complain when his/her story is altered. I've read many horror stories concerning this. Typically, an author is excited to see the book turned into a movie, albeit subsequently not so much. I suppose it's a hit and miss game...but with a lot of misses!

    1. Your friend has a great way of putting it. I think my favorite book to movie was the first Harry Potter. I really thought they did a wonderful job of keeping with the story and I did feel like it jumped right off the pages. There were a few things in the later movies that I did miss but then understood you can't get all the detail in 2 hours.

It would be interesting to sit down with a few authors who have had their books turned into movie to hear their thoughts on the finished product.

      Thanks for stopping by. :)
