Start the New Year Right: Setting Goals #IWSG

Hi everyone!

It's time to share our thoughts, insecurities, and encouraging words. Thanks to Alex and our co-hosts for keeping IWSG going. For those who aren't familiar with Insecure Writer's Support Group, just follow the link. It's a wonderful group.
I'm a big believe in setting realistic goals, and for 2016 my goal is to stay focused. To help me do that with my writing, I've set the following goals:

  • Exercise patience while my agent submits my latest YA novel. (This one is ALWAYS hard. I think I feign patience better than I exercise it.
  • Finish at least one first draft. With three project in the works (a MG fantasy, a YA realistic romance, and an Adult paranormal romance) this should be doable.
  • Polish the novel I finish.
  • Promote my published works. Because they need love too.

I added a word-count widget to the sidebar so that I can see the progress I'm making on my WIPs. Percentage wise, the MG fantasy is winning.

How were your holidays? Are you a patience person? Have you set any goals?

Thanks for stopping by. Happy New Year!

  3. If you can't exercise patience, maybe just stretch it a little.
Keeping busy and productive is the best way to fight that.

  4. Happy New Year! Promoting the book after it is written, polished, and published is the hardest resolution of all! Best of success with all your projects. Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

    1. I'm not a big "look at me" kind of person, so promoting is hard. I'll have to come up with a couple of fun ways to do that this year.

  5. I think, like you, I can put on a mask of patience when I'm really feeling impatient inside. Good luck with your goals! Mine is to finish my WIP and begin submitting, although I might not get to this point until Dec. 2016.

    1. When I was younger, my mom used to tell me all the time that patience is a virtue. Many years later, I still don't have much of it. :) Good luck with your goals too.

  6. Beware of working on too many projects at once. It can make it hard to finish any of them. I know this from experience.

    1. I often have more than one novel in the works. In the past, one will grab me more than the others, and it will become what I focus on. The last couple of weeks the MG has had most my attention, but I keep having ideas for the other books. Maybe my mind is a bit scattered these days. 8-/

  7. I am soooo impatient. That's why I love self-publishing so far. Your goals sound realistic yet challenging, specific, and measurable! Well done.

    1. You're doing great with SP too! I tried to keep them realistic. And I like the word count widget so I can see my progress.

  9. Cherie, goals are important. Gotta write them down with bullet points on how to accomplish them, then revise if necessary. Best wishes to you and yours for a healthy and prosperous New Year!

  10. Only one goal so far, to finish and submit my latest NaNo project. We'll see how it goes. :-)
