Q:  Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

I can't say that I have. And to be honest, I don't read many 1 or 2 star reviews to start with. I tend to think that the book simply wasn't for those readers. The exception to this is if the bad review is written by someone I follow and know has similar taste in books as I do. The review won't spark my interest to buy the book though.

How about you? Ever buy a book based on a bad review?

    I agree, I don't read many 1 or 2 stars reviews either.

  2. If there are multiple bad reviews I will definitely not buy a book. I read reviews for everything and if a majority of the ratings are below 3 stars I pass.

  3. I'm weird and I read 1 and 2 star reviews first. When someone asked me why I honestly didn't know why. I guess I want the bad news first. lol My F&F

Usually buy books based on interest and author!! Don't pay a whole lot of attention to reviews!

  6. I really only read reviews from my friends. I read them good, bad or ugly. I love when my friends give a book I loved a scathing review because it's such a different perspective.

But I don't buy books because of bad reviews. Too many good books out there.

My follow friday. Hope you'll stop by.

  7. I wrote a vampire romance turned horror-- girl meets boy, boy is a vampire, boy tries to kill girl. Understandably, Twihards HATE it.

One girl who gave my novel one star, had a friend on Goodreads, who had given Twilight a similarly low rating, add my book to his "currently reading" list shortly after she rated it.

    1. That is interesting. I always enjoy a vampire story. I'll have to check yours out. Not because someone gave it a low rating, but because it's vampires. Thanks for stopping by.

  8. I can tell you that I read the reviews of other people, but it is not the reason if I buy a book or not. I buy it only if I think it is a good book. But sometimes I should trust my GR friends more often :D

  9. I tend to read books that have good reviews because at least people I trust have enjoyed them which means I am probably more likely to as well :)

  10. I would certainly pay more attention to a bad review from someone whose tastes I generally share! Though I don't think I know anyone who aligns with my views 100% :)

Following from FF - sorry it's taken me a while to get round to you! It's my first week joining in, I hope you might have time to visit my FF post.
